 Today is a special day. Even though I have minimal Cerebral Palsy, I didn't know about World Cerebral Palsy Day until today. It is an event celebrated on the first Tuesday of September, beginning this year.  The website for World Cerebral Palsy Day is taking your ideas for improving the lives of those with Cerebral Palsy. All you have to do is register on the site, submit your idea with a description that takes 1 minute or less and registered members can vote on different ideas. The best ideas are chosen and may be used or developed  on the following year's World CP Day by chosen experts.So get going and spread the word- the submission and voting will only last 36 more days this year!

Reece's Rainbows: The Voice of Orphans with Special Needs Throughout the World

Grab This! There are a lot of sad stories and charities that tug at your heartstrings and purse-strings, but a story featuring  Ukraine Orphans with Down Syndrome being placed in a mental institution with adults at the ages of 4 and 5 really got to me. As much as I'd like to be able to adopt one of these children, I'm not at a place in my life where I can. There are lots of ways to help Reece's Rainbows Adoption Ministry help these children without adopting or giving money on their site, but if you are able there are contacts for that on their website as well. Reece's Rainbow has a page on Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger, too.

Town Charity Event Draws Tourists and Sales

            A Susan G Komen Race For The Cure not only raised awareness  and funds to fight breast cancer, but it also brought tourism and sales to Brentwood, TN, Near Nashville(according to the Tennessean_
 . Volunteer vacations and charity events aren't new, but they are growing in popularity. People who may not have a lot of funds can donate their time instead and perhaps plan their vacation around volunteering or attending charity events, but you don't necessarily have to travel in order to attend most charity events or do a volunteer vacation, if you live in a city of a reasonable size; there are hundreds of possibilities where you could put your skills to good use.  Some sites that might provide more information are;

Local Fall Walkathons Benefit Heart Association and Diabetes Organization

 Walkathons aren't just a great goal if you're trying to get in shape or do something active with family and friends, but is a terrific way to raise funds for causes that you believe in.  Even though I'm a bit of a couch potato(reforming), I have participated in the local diabetes walkathon before. It just requires some preplanning to be able t walk 3 or so miles if you haven't ben doing that much activity.

The American Heart Association 2010 Tennessee Valley Start! Heart Walk will begin at noon. You can see more info about this and other charity events here at NewsChannel9.com .

       The Step Out  Walk to Fight Diabetes wll be held at the Chattanooga Zoo   on November 6th   at 9 A.M.  You can find more info at the American Diabetes Association website.

The Austin Hatcher Foundation funds research for pediatric cancer and support for children with cancer and their families. It is based locally at Chattanooga, TN. Currently the foundation needs votes on Pepsi Refresh in order to win $250,000.
