National Teachers' League?

 This post is a little off topic today. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate athletes even though I'm not very athletic myself; but it just shows how American values are turned upside down when professional athletes are praised and paid more than the teachers in our public schools(Okay, I'm a little biased, my mother is a retired special ed. teacher :). ). If teachers were paid and evaluated like professional athletes, our children would get a much richer education and be better prepared for the workplace and college.  If there were corporate sponsors to sponsor teachers and let the parents, students and peers rate them(there are good and bad in every profession and it might help encourage the ones who aren't rated highly to try harder.), perhaps we could get somewhere. Maybe even produce something like baseball cards for the best teachers. Of course, some of this probably will never happen-but some parts already are. If you dream, why not dream big?

Honoring the Spirit of Christmas 365 Days a Year

                       Christmas is just around the corner. It's amazing how much nicer everybody is to each other during this season, with the exception of shopping crowds :D!  Why can't we be a little kinder all through the year. Here are a just a few ways that we can ;

  1. Give Back -  There are lots of ways to give back to your community and to the world that are free and inexpensive. There are several posts throughout this blog that will tell you how to do so, these are just a few examples ; A, B, C, D, E, F
  2.  Just Be Kind  Whether it's a Random Act of Kindness or just smiling at a neighbor or the people you meet each day-or saying a kind word. It can really make a difference in someone's life.
  3. Lend an Ear    Sometimes all someone needs for a person to listen to them.
  4. Develop an "Attitude of Gratitude"    Whether we list our blessings in a journal as Oprah suggested or just become more aware of them, it can change our perspective and how we relate to others.
  5. Put Someone Else First   One of my favorite Acronyms from childhood is J-O-Y(Jesus first, others second, yourself last)/. Putting others first can be as simple as playing with your child when you have a lot of chores to do(they'll keep),or letting others ahead of you in line or in traffic. Don't wait until Christmas to call or write friends and family.
  6. Take A Moment For You   Whether it's to set aside time for prayer, or just to relax and breathe. It can help you throughout each day.

It's Time for NaBloPoMo!

Image representing BlogHer as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase
   What in the heck is NaBloPoMo? It's BlogHer's challenge to write a blog every day in November. To learn more, check out the NaBloPoMo site and my latest post on Ccol4him's Claymania, my other blog. I just joined the challenge and hope you'll enjoy this diversion and ride along with me.

The prompt for today is "When you are writing, do you prefer to use a pen or a computer?" . As I said in my other blog, I usually prefer writing on computer because it is usually more legible for others to read than my handwriting. However, for personal cards and letters-handwriting  just adds a special personal touch. The person who receives such a note will treasure it and respect the time you spent to think of them. If you are in a hurry and want to send such a note, you can always type everything but your signature.
               What do you think, readers and do you think you could take this challenge?
