Giving Tuesday or Any Day Ideas

            Today is "Giving Tuesday", do you have plans to donate to your favorite charity now(or any day) ? If not, here are a few ideas;

• If you can't afford to give money now, there are other ways to give such as volunteering. You can even volunteer online for some charities at sites such as Skills For Change. For more info see;
  Start With 1:Giving on a Shoestring Budget  and A Dozen( or so) Free Ways To Make A Difference
•  You can donate part (10 dollars each) or all of a goat (120 dollars) or another animal for people in need around the world through Heifer International .
• For 25 dollars or so, you can give a Kiva loan to provide education, business development and other resources for people in need.  When the loan is paid back, you can use the money for another Kiva loan. 
•  For 250 dollars, you can provide a camp scholarship for kids with and without special needs through the National Inclusion Project. (If you wanted to do a group donation, you and 9 other friends could give 25 dollars each or you and 24 other friends could give 10 dollars each).

Give Better in 2017

          What are your resolutions for the New Year? Any of them involve giving more to charity? They might tie in better than you think;

    volunteering may be your best choice.  Also, you can use websites like GoodSearch and iGive to give back-

    
    

    • If you are trying to lose weight, 

      

      a charity run, walk or dance may do the job. In addition, these would be a great way to get some family time; in preparation and during the event.

Volunteer Work Gives Job Experience for Teens

Volunteer work can be one easy way for teens to plump up their resume.

 

 

    

          While there aren't always many job opportunities for first-time employees, charities always need volunteers of all ages. It can give teens an experience in working and perhaps a sense of career direction. Although there isn't a paycheck involved, there are other benefits. There are several sources for teens and parents to find volunteer work in there area. Among these are; VolunteerMatch ,   Teen Life, and United Planet

www.HelpFromHome.org- Bite-sized Benevolence for Businesses. Who To Shake A Stick At?

 

                   We are in the midst of organizing the second International Microvolunteering Day, to be held on 15th April, 2015. http://microvolunteeringday.weebly.com/ This years theme focuses on encouraging firms to integrate microvolunteering into their CSR / employee volunteering programme. We've noticed a growing trend of firms wanting to integrate unskilled microvolunteering actions into their CSR projects, the main reason behind this being that unskilled microvolunteering can be participated by employees from the Cleaner to the CEO, whereas skilled microvolunteering is more exclusive to a select few. We want to reach out to businesses with this new trend, and are appealing to you kind folk for some help with the following: - we'll be writing an article on this new trend that incorporates info on Microvolunteering Day
                    . Do you know of any CSR / business aligned publications that we can contact to get this article published on their platform? - if you're part of an employee volunteering programme, are you able to encourage your fellow employees to participate in some unskilled microvolunteering on April 15th? See the 'For Employees' section on the Microvolunteering Day website. Let us know if you'll be doing something http://microvolunteeringday.weebly.com/employees.html - do you know of any CSR aligned forums. `How Not To Give Foolishly

     

1.  
   Don't Give to Organizations You Don't Know           If you don't know anything about a charity, do some research first before you give. You're less likely to be scammed that way. Check out the charity's website, check out the charity through Charity Navigator or the Better Business Bureau, and ask friends and relatives what they think of the charity. Overall, it will give you a good picture of the cause and weed out the fakes and scam artists. If it's local, you might want to check out the local office or offer to volunteer instead.
2. Don't Give to Charities that Solicit You First         I don't usually give to charities that solicit me first, unless they are well-known or I have donated in the past.   
3. When Donating For Disaster Relief; Don't Give Immediately- Wait 6 Months        It's tempting to donate right away in times of major disaster like 9/11 or the earthquake in Haiti, but chances are that most donors will have stopped giving by then and there will be just as much need at that time .   I have donated immediately in the past, but no longer.  Most scam artists will have moved on to something else by this time as well. 
4.   When Possible,   Give Time instead of Money         Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community without costing a lot of money.  You and the clients and the charity will benefit in many measurable and unmeasurable ways. It's a great way to find out more about a charity and it also has several social benefits.   
5. Don't Give To An Individual, Unless You Know and Trust Them      Whatever their need is, be homeless or whatever, it is often better to direct the person to a local charity than to give them money personally.
